Daniel began working at Royal Wolf as a labour hire, before commencing a full time role over 3 years ago as a welder and boilermaker. An essential member of Perth’s small modification team, he transforms containers into all kinds of things — and he’s dedicated to nailing the details.
“My team work their magic behind the scenes; we’re one step removed from the customers. We start with a basic blueprint of whatever it is that the customer wants and establish the best way to approach it. We begin with a standard container and cut out the doors and windows, modify the floors to put in lino or carpet and install things like air conditioners. We also collaborate with contractors who install shelving, and electricians who deck the containers out with what the customer needs,” says Daniel.
Daniel loves the variety of work at Royal Wolf and for him, there’s no such thing as an ‘odd’ request.
“The team work on a range of jobs, from converting containers into office spaces to building tool boxes for oil rigs. I’ve just finished working on a container for storing rigging and craning gear. We built a big fold out roof with a hatch. Nothing is strange or unusual for us. It’s just like, ‘okay, no worries. This is what we have to do’,” he says.
On stand-out projects, Daniel recalls a recent modification for Probuild in Elizabeth Quay. The large-scale project was completed in just under three months. “We built a massive heavy duty 3-story office building with big window cut outs and all the deck outs to house Probuild’s workers and construction team. It was a pretty incredible job to work on,” he says.
When Daniel isn’t working at Royal Wolf, he’s busy being a dad to two young kids. “My kids are very young, so I spend a lot of time with them. When I do have a moment to myself, I just sit down and enjoy the quietness. I also love fishing. I would like to go fishing more if I could,” he says.
