Fleet Controller Ellyn Calthorpe has been working at our Brisbane branch for 21 years, but she originally hails from Wellington across the ditch.
“I grew up in Wellington, New Zealand and spent 10 years as a marching girl before moving to Sydney in 1980. While living in Sydney, I met my husband and we had two girls. During my time in Sydney, I worked for the surf company Mambo in accounts payable. A few years later, a new job at Port Botany, which is Australia’s largest container port, came up and I moved to Brisbane. And in 1998, I joined the team at Royal Wolf,” says Ellyn.
As a Fleet Controller, Ellyn is continually active and communicates with lots of different people.
“I’m responsible for controlling all the containers that come in and out of the yard. My days are pretty busy. There’s always trucks coming in and out, so I spend lots of time at the window. My job is hands on, so I can’t just get up and walk away. I’m also accountable for all of the stock in the yard. I love my job and I feel good when stocktake balance with no losses,” she says.
After 21 years at Royal Wolf, Ellyn has forged strong relationships with her colleagues and she counts her blessings every day to have such a great, helpful team.
“My job wouldn’t be as efficient if it wasn’t for the relationships I have with the forklift drivers in the yard. Without their cooperation, things would be very hard. I work with a great bunch of people who enjoy each other’s company inside and outside of work!” she says.
Outside of the office, Ellyn loves spending as much time as she can with her grandchildren. She was lucky enough to welcome a new grandson to the world just four weeks ago!
