Passengers travelling to and from Launceston Airport will now have access to superior services as part of its $3.5million upgrade, including a customised self-storage locker area created by the modifications specialists at Royal Wolf. Launceston Airport welcomes more than 1.35 million passengers each year. However, with no facilities to help store their belongings, travelers inconvenienced by short-term delays were unable to venture freely without carrying hefty baggage around.
Royal Wolf created an innovative solution by transforming a 20 foot premium shipping container to be used as a locker facility, offering convenient, safe and secure storage for up to six weeks, for those wanting to stow luggage while travelling around the Apple Isle. Clayton Bevis, Area Manager Royal Wolf Tasmania said as the container is located in a high traffic area it had to look perfect as part of the airport restructure, which has been named Australia’s Major Airport of the Year for the past three years. “We modified the container to remove one of the sides, added a framework to accommodate a mix of three locker sizes, painted and delivered it to the airport all well ahead of target.
The outside was decaled and infrastructure added to ensure easy access - the customer was delighted with the outcome,” he said. “Now passengers who arrive prior to check-in or whose flights are delayed can take advantage of the lockers and enjoy the retail and dining facilities while waiting for their flight.” Royal Wolf’s strong and durable containers can be completely transformed into exciting and imaginative spaces for anything from community events, festivals, pop-up shops, bars and café’s to sporting competitions. Fully engineered by the modifications team, shipping containers can be multi-level, sandblasted, illuminated and fully branded solutions, perfectly designed to suit any location.
