Locals and tourists in Tasmania can look forward to unrivaled views from a new lookout and a unique retail space built using shipping containers within the grounds of Brown Brothers’ Devil’s Corner vineyard.
Royal Wolf, Australia’s leading shipping container provider, collaborated with award-winning local architects, Cumulus Studio, to create perfectly framed vantage points with timber clad containers. The viewing tower, constructed with 4 x 40ft shipping containers and 2 x 20ft shipping containers, enables stunning views across the vineyard and surrounding mountain range and bay. The retail space is built from three units modified to form a café kiosk, cellar door and restaurant where visitors can enjoy freshly shucked oysters and wood-fired pizza, washed down with an impressive selection of local wines. Rick Temple, Royal Wolf Sales Executive Tasmania said, “We were excited to work with Cumulus Studio to create this exceptional piece of architecture. Together we delivered a durable yet stylish concept that comfortably sits within its surrounds. “By constructing the containers to specification offsite and then transporting them to Tasmania, it was a seamless operation from start to finish. It involved six weeks of work, the culmination of two years planning,” Rick said.
Will Adkins, Tasmanian Marketing Manager from Brown Brothers said, “Shipping containers provided a perfect solution to the design of our venue where three distinct spaces reference the different and enchanting views of the vineyard, from the ‘sky’, to the ‘horizon’ to the ‘tower’, the latter standing tall and looking across the bay. “This distinct piece of architecture draws a strong parallel to what we produce in the vineyard and makes the cellar door more than just a place to taste our award-winning wines,” Mr Adkins said. Royal wolf containers are strong, easily modified and can be transported direct to site, making them ideal for a huge range of exciting design, building and retail applications.
