The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is set to benefit from a new base in Hobart to enable vital healthcare services for people who live and work in rural Tasmania, thanks to the country’s leading supplier of shipping containers, Royal Wolf. Two 20-foot containers recently renovated on Australia’s favourite lifestyle show, Channel 7’s Better Homes and Gardens have been donated by Royal Wolf and transformed into essential airport facilities to ensure pilots and paramedics have a comfortable and convenient base whilst working in Tasmania. Situated just 100 metres from the aircrafts, each unit is fitted with plumbing and electricity and comprises a bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette complete with dishwasher and lounge room.
John Kirwan, Chief Executive Officer of RFDS Tasmania, said this donation will make a huge impact in helping to grow the crucial 24-hour emergency services provided by the air ambulance. “Offering accommodation at the airport has been our hope for several years as in the past the pilots had to wait in the cockpit of an aircraft for patients to be transferred which was especially harsh during the cold winter months. We are incredibly grateful to Royal Wolf, BH&G, Bunnings and Hobart Airport, as RFDS rely heavily on support from the Australian community to keep us flying and saving lives on a daily basis,” Mr Kirwan said. CEO of Royal Wolf, Robert Allan, said the company is proud to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service as they continue to provide emergency care for patients. “This accommodation solution is another great example of how Royal Wolf containers are being used to solve a wide range of challenges with the added advantage of being easily transported to any location,” Mr Allan said.
